Baladic charm of love and death. Literary analysis of Viktor Dyk's novel Krysař (Pied Piper)

Abstract:

V této diplomové práci se pokoušíme nahlížet na Dykovu novelu Krysař poněkud netradičním způsobem. Do centra výkladu stavíme motivy lásky a smrti, jejichž vzájemné prolnutí a koexistence se odrážejí v kompozici. Nejprve upozorňujeme na typické znaky Dykova díla, v jehož rámci tyto motivy zkoumáme a následně přistupujeme k analýze novely Krysař. Při analýze motivu lásky vycházíme z existence dvou paralelních milostných trojúhelníků (primárního a sekundárního), v jejichž rámci zkoumáme vztahy mezi postavami a upozorňujeme na konstantní přítomnost tragického prvku. Při analýze motivu smrti si všímáme jeho dvou základních podob a upozorňujeme na "temné" prvky Dykova příběhu.

Abstract:

In this work, we try to look at the Dyk's novel Pied Piper in some unconventional way. The center of our interpretation are love and death themes, whose mutual blending and coexistence are reflected in the composition. First, we note the typical signs of Dyk's work in which we examine the motives and subsequently revised approach to the analysis of the Pied Piper. When analyzing the love theme, we proceed from the existence of two parallel love triangles (primary and secondary) in which we explore the relationships between characters and draw attention to the constant presence of the tragic element. When analyzing the theme of death, we notice the two basic forms, and draw attention to the "dark" elements of Dyk's story.
