Gender pay gap in the Czech Republic in the banking and insurance industry

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá rozdíly v odměňování žen a mužů v České republice. Česká republika se v rámci Evropské unie řadí na sedmé místo mezi země s nejvyšším rozdílem v odměňováním mezi ženou a mužem. Ukazatel gednder pay gap (GPG) byl za rok 2020 16,4 %. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jak vysoký existuje rozdíl v odměňování žen a mužů v České republice zaměstnaných v oboru peněžnictví a pojišťovnictví pomocí očištěného ukazatele gender pay gap. Primární data byla získávaná pomocí dotazníkového šetření. Data byla zpracována a vyhodnocena pomocí popisné statistiky a Oaxaca-Blinder metody, která je na principu lineární regrese. Výzkum zjistil výši mzdové mezery 10,83 %. Mzdová mezera byla rozdělena na dvě části. Na část, kterou lze vysvětlit rozdílnými individuálními charakteristikami a na část nevysvětlenou, ta značí možnou diskriminaci. Vysvětlená část GPG se pohybovala okolo 27 % a nevysvětlená část dosahovala až 73 %. Celkovou výši mzdové mezery tedy nelze zcela vysvětlit rozdílnými osobnostními charakteristikami žen a mužů. Výsledná data mohou sloužit zaměstnancům a zaměstnavatelům oboru peněžnictví a pojišťovnictví jako přehled o mzdových rozdílech a jako inspirace, jak eliminovat možný rozdíl v odměňování žen a mužů. Případným řešením je transparentní odměňování.

Abstract:

The bachelor´s thesis dealt with the differences in remuneration of women and men in the Czech Republic. Within the European Union, the Czech Republic ranks seventh among the countries with the highest GPG. The pay gap between women and men was 16,4 % in 2020. The aim of the work was to find out how big a difference exists in the remuneration of women and men in the Czech Republic employed in the field of finance and insurance using the adjusted gender pay gap indicator. Primary data was collected using a questionnaire survey. Data were processed and interpreted using descriptive statistics and the Oaxaca Blinder method, which is based on the principle of linear regression. The research found a wage gap of 10.83%. The wage gap was divided into two parts. The part that can be explained by different human capital and the part that is unexplained indicates possible discrimination. The explained part of GPG was around 27% and the unexplained part reached up to 73%. Overall, the size of the wage gap cannot be completely explained by the different personality characteristics of women and men. the resulting data can serve employees and employers in the financial and insurance industry as an overview of wage differences and as inspiration on how to eliminate a possible gender pay gap. A possible solution is transparent remuneration.
