Pathogenicity of attached ticks from children

Abstract:

Klíšťata Ixodes ricinus jsou vektory patogenních mikroorganismů, které mohou být po procesu sání přeneseny na hostitele. Pokud do tohoto cyklu zasáhne náhodně člověk nebo hospodářské zvíře, výsledkem pak může být závažné onemocnění způsobené přenosem určitého patoge-nu. Cílem bakalářské práce je detekce vybraných patogenů v klíštěti obecném odstraněném z dětí na letním táboře. Dalším cílem práce je na základě výsledků seznámit veřejnost s rizikem přenosu infekce pro-střednictvím klíštěte a zdůraznit důležitost dodržování preventivních opatření. Zjištění přítomnosti patogenů bylo provedeno pomocí PCR metody. U 110 klíšťat byla zjišťována přítomnost mikroorganizmu Borrelia bur-gdorferi s.l. a posléze byla prováděna detekce dalších čtyř patogenů (Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Coxiella burnetii, Ehrlichia chaffeensis a Francisella tularensis). Všechny tyto patogeny vyvolávají závažná zoo-notická onemocnění. Průměrná pozitivita všech vzorků na Bbsl byla 40 %. Promořená klíšťata se objevila u dětí ve věku 7 – 13 let. Bylo také analyzováno celkem 10 klíšťat rodu Dermacentor a Haemaphysalis po-sbíraných z vegetace. Pozitivita nebyla odhalena u žádného z nich.

Abstract:

Ixodes ricinus ticks are vectors of pathogenic microorganisms that can be transferred to the host after the sucking process. If a person or a farm animal accidentally intervenes in this cycle, the result can be a se-rious disease caused by the transmission of a certain pathogen. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is the detection of selected pathogens in ticks removed from children at a summer camp. Based on the results, another goal of this work is to inform the public about the risk of transmission of infection through ticks and to emphasize the impor-tance of observing preventive measures. Detection of the presence of pathogens was carried out using the PCR method. The presence of the microorganism Borrelia burgdorferi s.l. was analyzed in 110 ticks. and then the detection of four other pathogens (Anaplasma phagocy-tophilum, Coxiella burnetii, Ehrlichia chaffeensis and Francisella tu-larensis) was carried out. All of these pathogens cause serious zoonotic diseases. The average positivity of all samples for Bbsl was 40%. Soa-ked ticks appeared in children between the ages of 7 and 13. A total of 10 ticks of the genus Dermacentor and Haemaphysalis collected from the vegetation were also analyzed. Positivity was not detected in any of them.
