Design in the medical field and the process from a designer´s view

Abstract:

Tématem disertační práce je design ve zdravotnictví a jeho proces z hlediska designéra. V širším kontextu se zabývá oblastí kompenzačních pomůcek, stručně mapuje jejich historii a hodnotí, jak se jednotlivých oborů v této oblasti ve 21 století dotkl design. Hlavním tématem práce je průzkum antidekubitních pomůcek na trhu, problematika dekubitů a posturálních deformit u lidí na vozíku, která určuje směr pro praktický výstup. Na základě výstupů ze spolupráce se zdravotními specialisty a koncovými uživateli vozíčkáři a materiálového průzkumu, popisuje vývoj nové zdravotní pomůcky nastavitelného antidekubitního sedacího systému Libella Seat Varia. Autorka dále popisuje proces založení vlastní značky a výrobně obchodní společnosti. Práce tak čtenáře provádí celým procesem vývoje produktu od zjištění potřeb trhu, přes uvedení zdravotního prostředku na trh včetně legislativního procesu zápisu do úhradového katalogu zdravotních prostředků ČR, strategie prodeje a výrobního procesu až po výsledky z prodeje s představením reálných zdravotních účinků produktu u spokojených zákazníků po 2 letech používání. Praktickým výstupem disertační práce je produkt Antidekubitní sedací systém Libella Seat Varia, který je zapsaným zdravotnickým prostředkem a byl uveden do výroby a prodeje výrobce Libella design s.r.o.. Produkt také získal ocenění Red Dot Award Product Design 2022 a je ochráněn Užitným a Průmyslovým vzorem. V rámci studentského grantového projektu byl vývoji a výzkum produktu zdokumentován krátkým filmem.

Abstract:

The topic of the dissertation is healthcare design and its process from a designer's perspective. In a broader context, it explores the field of compensatory aids, briefly mapping their history, and evaluating how the various disciplines in this field have been touched by design in the 21st century. The main topic of the work is a survey of anti-decubitus aids on the market, and the issue of decubitus and postural deformities of wheelchair users, which determines the direction for the practical output. Based on outputs from cooperation with healthcare specialists and end users - wheelchair users and material research, it describes the development of a new aid - the Libella Seat Varia adjustable anti-decubitus seating system. The author also describes the process of establishing her own brand and manufacturing and sales company. Thus, the work guides the reader through the entire process of product development from identifying market needs, through the introduction of the medical aid to the market including the legislative process of registration in the Czech reimbursement catalogue of medical devices, sales strategy and manufacturing process to sales results with the presentation of real health effects of the product with satisfied customers after 2 years of use. The practical output of the dissertation is a product - Anti-decubitus seating system Libella Seat Varia, which has been registered medical aid and has been placed in production and sale by the manufacturer Libella design s.r.o.. The product has also been awarded the Red Dot Award - Product Design 2022 and is protected by a Utility and Industrial Design. As part of a student grant project, the product development and research was documented in a short film.
