The Tea Cult as an Aesthetic Phenomenon

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce „Kult čaje jako estetický fenomén“ si klade za úkol objasnit estetickou hodnotu kultu čaje a její dopad na japonskou a evropskou společnost. Ve čtyřech kapitolách bude postupně rozebrána historie, formální stránka čajového obřadu, její spirituální poslání a poslední kapitola se bude zabývat srovnáním obou kultů čaje tak, aby byla patrná jejich rozdílnost plynoucí z jazykové a mentální neshody. Náhled na čajový obřad jako syntézu zenových a taoistických estetických principů a zároveň jako hybnou sílu společenské kultivace pomůže objasnit vznik estetického egalitarismu.

Abstract:

The bachelor diploma thesis "The Tea Cult as an Aesthetic Phenomenon" sets itself a task to explain the aesthetic value of the tea cult and its impact on the Japanese and the European society. History, the formal aspect of the tea ceremony and its spiritual function will be successively analysed in four chapters and the last chapter will deal with the comparison of both tea cults in a way that their dissimilarity following from the linguistic and mental differences would be obvious. The view of the tea ceremony as a synthesis of the Zen and Taoist aesthetic principles and, at the same time, as the driving force of social cultivation will also help explain the formation of aesthetic egalitarianism.
