Život po operaci, při které je vytvořena stomie, se zásadně mění. Klient se musí naučit žít se stomií, ošetřovat ji a zároveň se vrátit zpět do života, který žil před operací. V dnešní době jsou možnosti péče o stomie na vysoké úrovni oproti době před 20 lety, ale je nutné mít o této problematice dostatek informací.
