Indigenous Autonomy? The Indigenous Rights Debate in Latin American Countries

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o probíhající diskuzi kolem práv původních obyvatel a autonomie. Problematika původních obyvatel v Latinské Americe se nachází v centru pozornosti antropologů. Latinská Amerika nabízí pestrou mozaiku původních obyvatel, kteří se během staletí stali předmětem vykořisťováni, asimilace a diskriminace díky svému původu. S příchodem globalizace, bojem za práva menšin, a vlastní iniciativou skrze organizace a hnutí byli schopni se zapojit do diskuze se státem o svých právech. Tato práce sleduje situaci ve třech vybraných zemích Latinské Ameriky, a to Bolívie, Chile, Mexiko. Mapuje vývoj problematiky původních obyvatel skrze legislativní rámec, organizace původních obyvatel a diskuze vedené na různých úrovních, které probíhají v daných státech. Následně analyzuje probíhající diskuzi skrze různé aktéry.

Abstract:

This thesis discusses the ongoing debate about indigenous rights and autonomy. The issues of indigenous people in Latin America are in the center of attention of anthropologists. Latin America offers a rich mosaic of indigenous people, who have been subject of exploitation, assimilation and discrimination due to their origin over the centuries. With the rise of globalization, struggle for minority rights and through their own organizations and movement they have been able to engage in discussion with state. This work monitors the situation in three selected coutries in Latin America, in Bolivia, Chile and Mexico. It surveys the development of indigenous issues through the legislative framework, organizations of indigenous people and discussiones, that are held at different levels. Then analyzes the ongoing discussion between different actors.
