Abstract:

Diplomová práce Krakauer and Strayed: The Crisis of Identity in Contemporary Literature se zabývá krizí identity hlavních představitelů v současných literárních textech Jona Krakauera (1996) a Cheryl Strayedové (2012). Diplomová práce si klade za cíl prozkoumat roli jedince v postmoderní společnosti (Bellah, 1986) a potřebu samoty ve světě závislém na lidských vztazích (Buchholz, 1997) a poskytnout komentář ke krizi identity a procesu hledání osobní svobody a síly v americké divočině. Výsledky textové analýzy si kladou za cíl potvrdit nebo vyvrátit akademická tvrzení na téma chůze v divočině jako prostředku pro dosažení svobody a osvobození se od společnosti, frustrace, traumatu a osobních problémů, s cílem prožít hlubokou osobností změnu a vytvořit si uspokojivý osobní život.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis Krakauer and Strayed: The Crisis of Identity in Contemporary Literature discusses the crisis of identity of the main protagonists in contemporary literary texts by Jon Krakauer (1996) and Cheryl Strayed (2012). Researching the role of an individual in postmodern society in Bellah (1986) and the need of solitude in a world of attachment (Buchholz, 1997), the thesis aims to comment on the crisis of identity and the search for individual freedom and strength in American wilderness. The outcomes of the textual analysis and interpretation are to prove or disprove the academic claims on the matter of walking into wilderness in order to free oneself from society, frustration, trauma and personal trouble, experience a profound transition and construe a satisfying personal lifestyle.
