Selection of Swedish and US stocks using value investing methods and the impact of sustainability metrics on intrinsic shareholder value

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce má za úkol identifikovat akcie na švédském a americkém trhu, které splňují principy hodnotového investování. Následná fundamentální analýza prozradí vnitřní hodnotu akcie pomocí diskontování peněžních toků. Dále práce klade důraz na ESG faktor, tedy hodnocení týkající se environmentálních a sociálních činitelů. Postavení společnosti k tomuto faktoru může být bráno mnoha investory jako systematické riziko při odhadu cen akcií. V praktické části se práce zaobírám společnostmi Netgear a Electra Gruppen, které byly kritérii screeningu zvoleny jako nejvhodnější k valuaci celkové hodnoty firmy (FCFF). V tomto případě je zvolena diskontní míra vážených průměru na kapitál (WACC). U společností je provedena fundamentální analýza faktorů ovlivňující závěrečnou cenu. V závěru práce je spočítána výsledná cena na akcii společností před začleněním faktoru ESG a po začlenění tohoto faktoru.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis aims to identify stocks in the Swedish and US markets that meet the principles of value investing. The subsequent fundamental analysis will reveal the intrinsic value of the stock by discounting the cash flows. Furthermore, the thesis emphasises the ESG factor, that is the evaluation concerning environmental and social factors. A company's position on this factor can be taken by many investors as a systematic risk in estimating stock prices. In the practical part, the thesis deals with Netgear and Electra Gruppen, those stocks have been selected by the screening criteria as the most suitable companies for the valuation of the total firm value (FCFF). In this case, the discount rate of weighted average cost of capital (WACC) is chosen. A fundamental analysis of the factors affecting the closing price is performed for the company. At the end of the thesis, I mention the resulting price per share of companies with and without the inclusion of ESG factor.
