The Appearance of Ugliness in the Contemporary Popular Culture

Abstract:

Cílem práce je prozkoumat fenomén ošklivosti v současné populární kultuře vnávaznosti na odbornou literaturu a dějiny této estetické kategorie. Zabývá se otázkou vztahu mezi ošklivostí a krásou, čím je ošklivost podmíněna a z čeho pramení její trend. Práce má formu případové studie rozdělené do dvou částí, přičemž první obsahuje typologii ošklivosti, zatímco druhá pojednává o odůvodnění rozšířenosti a paradoxní přitažlivosti ošklivosti.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to examine the phenomenon of ugliness in contemporary popular culture including literature, both classic and modern, dedicated to this aesthetic category. The thesis deals with questions such as what is the relationship between beauty and ugliness like, or what is the cause of ugliness and why is it trendy? This work takes a form of case study divided into two parts. The first part contains a typology of uglinnes while the second part tries to puzzle out what stands behind its expansion and paradoxical attraction.
