Manufacturing firms as the actors of development in peripheral areas

Abstract:

Průmyslová výroba má v některých regionech Česka historickou tradici, která může mít jak pozitivní, tak negativní dopady na socioekonomický rozvoj regionu. Pozitivním aspektem je například zaměstnanost, naopak za negativní aspekt je považována rostoucí zátěž na životní prostředí. A rovněž průmysl v periferních regionech zastává specifickou roli, již nemůžeme opomíjet. Jako modelové území byly vybrány čtyři správní obvody obcí s rozšířenou působností: Krnov, Bruntál, Jeseník a Rýmařov. Všechny tyto správní obvody se potýkají s řadou problémů, jako je nadprůměrná nezaměstnanost nebo migrace obyvatel z regionu. Hlavním cílem mé diplomové práce je posoudit vliv průmyslových firem na socioekonomický rozvoj regionu. Při výzkumu jsem použil data ze sekundárních zdrojů Českého statistického úřadu, Administrativního registru ekonomických subjektů a webu justice.cz. Jako další zdroj informací posloužily rozhovory se zástupci 21 průmyslových firem.

Abstract:

The industrial production has a historical tradition in some regions of Czechia, and the production can have positive and negative impact as well on the socio-economic development of the region. Positive aspect can be employment, on the contrary, the increasing environmental burden is considered as a negative aspect. Industry may play a specific role in peripheral regions. As a model area, four administrative districts of municipalities with extended powers were selected. All of these administrative districts are facing a number of problems such as above-average unemployment or population migration away from the region. The main goal of my master thesis is to assess the impact of industrial companies on the socio-economic development of the region. During my research I used data from secondary sources of the Czech statistical office, the Access to register of economic subjects and justice.cz website. As another source of information was used the interviews with representatives of 21 industrial companies.
