This thesis deals with the topic of long term breastfeeding. It is divided into two parts. The theoretical part is focused on health benefits of long term breastfeeding for children and mothers. Most common factors influencing breastfeeding are categorized and discussed. Also, it describes the promotion of breastfeeding in the Czech republic. Práca sa snaží nájsť odpovede na otázky, či je celková dĺžka dojčenia ovplyvnená vedomosťami matiek o benefitoch dojčenia; či a aká forma podpory bola poskytovaná dlhodobo dojčiacim matkám; aké informácie majú matky o dlhodobom dojčení a v neposlednej rade sa snaží identifikovať najčastejšie problémy, pre ktoré ženy ukončujú dojčenie predčasne.
