Medical social workers: the perception of their role and importance in hospitals

Abstract:

V mé bakalářské práci jsem se zabývala vnímáním vlastní role zdravotně-sociálním pracovníkem a důležitost jejich role v prostředí nemocnic. I v dnešní době se totiž často v nemocnicích stává, že personál v nemocnici o této profesi nemá dostatečné informace. Domnívám se, že zdravotně-sociální práce je v nemocnici nepostradatelná, a proto jsem chtěla zjistit, jestli s moji myšlenku sympatizují také zdravotně-sociální pracovníci v nemocnicích a členové managementu nemocnice. Cílem mé bakalářské práce tedy bylo zjistit, jak zdravotně-sociální pracovníci nahlížejí na svoji profesi a jestli je profese zdravotně-sociálního pracovníka důležitá z jejich pozice a z pozice managementu nemocnice. Výzkum jsem se pokoušela naplnit pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů se zdravotně-sociálními pracovníky v nemocnicích a se členy managementu nemocnice. Prostřednictvím výzkumu jsem zjistila, že motivace pro profesi hraje u zdravotně-sociálních pracovníků velkou roli. Motivace pro profesi je nepostradatelná, jelikož ovlivňuje přístup zdravotně-sociálních pracovníků k práci a klientům. Výsledky mého výzkumu ale poukazují i problém, kdy členové managementu ve větší míře nemají představu, jaké činnosti a kompetence mají zdravotně-sociální pracovníci v nemocnicích. Velmi podstatné ale je, že členové managementu po představení zdravotně-sociální práce i samotní zdravotně-sociální pracovníci vnímají profesi zdravotně-sociálního pracovníka za nepostradatelnou součást multidisciplinárního týmu, jelikož žádný jiný pracovník v nemocnici nemůže klientům poskytnout dostatečnou péči v sociální oblasti.

Abstract:

In my bachelor's thesis, I focused on the perception of the role of medical social workers and the importance of their role in hospital environments. Even today, hospital staff often lack sufficient information about this profession. I believe that medical social work is indispensable in hospitals, and therefore I wanted to find out if medical social workers in hospitals, and hospital management members share my perspective. My bachelor's thesis aimed to find out how medical social workers perceive their profession and whether the profession of a medical social worker is important from their position and the perspective of hospital management. I tried to fulfill the research through semi-structured interviews with medical social workers in hospitals and hospital management members. Through the research, I found that motivation for the profession plays a significant role among medical social workers. Motivation for the profession is essential because it influences medical social workers' approach to work and clients. However, the results of my research also point to a problem where hospital management members have a limited understanding of the activities and competencies of medical social workers in hospitals. Nevertheless, hospital management members and medical social workers must perceive the medical social work profession as an indispensable part of the multidisciplinary team in hospitals Essential is that both management members and medical social workers themselves perceive the medical social work profession as an indispensable part of the multidisciplinary team after introducing medical social work. It is because no other worker in the hospital can provide clients with sufficient care in social area.
