Emotivism and its position in present ethical discourse

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o problematice emotivismu v metaetice a poskytuje jeho kritickou reflexi ze strany vybraných autorů. V první části je nastíněno historické pozadí emotivismu. Druhá část je zaměřena na emotivistickou teorrii Alfreda J. Ayera a Charlese leslie Stevensona. V této časti kladu důrat na podobnost mezi koncepcemi těchto autorů. V poslední kapitole pojednávám o vybrané kritice emotivismu a o náhledu současné morální psychologie a neurovědy do emotivní teorie, který podporuje emotivismus. Cílem této práce je pokusit se poskytnout odpověd na otázku zda si může emotivismus proto této kritice udržet relevanci.

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis deals with problems of Emotivism in metaethics and with its present critical reflection on the part of selected authors. In the first part there is a outlined historical background of emotivism. The second part is focused on the emotivistic theory of Alfred Jules Ayer and Charles Leslie Stevenson. In this part I gave emphasis to a similarity between conceptions of these authors. In the last chapter I deal with the selected criticism of emotivism and with the insight of present moral psychology and neuroscience into emotive theory which support emotivism. The aim of this work is to attempt to provide answer on question, whether emotivism can sustain its relevance against this critics.
