The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the well-being and work performance of academic staff in Ghana

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce představuje analýzu dopadu pandemie covid-19 na psychickou pohodu a pracovní výkon akademického personálu na University of Ghana. V kontextu bezprecedentní krize vyvolané virem SARS-CoV-2 se věnuje zkoumání transformace pedagogických procesů a adaptace akademických pracovníků na modifikované podmínky distančního vzdělávání. Stěžejním cílem této studie je identifikace hlavních bariér a výzev, jež vyvstaly v důsledku přechodu na online výukové prostředky, a posouzení jejich vlivu na pracovní výkon a mentální stav učitelů. Metodologický rámec práce spočívá v aplikaci smíšeného výzkumného designu, s důrazem na kvantitativní dotazníkové šetření s doplňujícím kvalitativním rozhovorem, s cílem získat vhled do změněných pracovních podmínek akademických pracovníků. Data byla získána prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření, jehož odpovědi byly podrobeny konfirmační faktorové analýze, testům spolehlivosti, jednosměrné analýze rozptylu (ANOVA) a korelačním testům. Výsledky práce upozorňují na kritické psychosociální aspekty pandemie. Tato studie tak přispívá k rozšíření akademického diskurzu ohledně dopadů pandemie na univerzitní prostředí.

Abstract:

The presented thesis examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental well-being and work performance of academic staff at the University of Ghana. In the context of the unprecedented crisis caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, it explores the transformation of pedagogical processes and the adaptation of academic staff to modified conditions of distance education. The central aim of this study is to identify the main barriers and challenges that arose as a result of the transition to online educational resources, and to assess their impact on the work performance and mental state of teachers. The methodological framework of the thesis is based on a mixed research design, with an emphasis on quantitative questionnaire surveys supplemented by qualitative interview, aimed at gaining insight into the changed working conditions of academic staff. Data were collected through questionnaire surveys, and the responses were subjected to confirmatory factor analysis, reliability tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and correlation tests. The results of the study highlight the critical psychosocial aspects of the pandemic. This study thus contributes to the expansion of academic discourse regarding the impacts of the pandemic on the university environment.
