This thesis deals with narrative styles and techniques Irvine Welsh uses in his novels Trainspotting and Filth while setting them into geographical and stylistic context, reflecting on similar techniques and styles used by other authors and how Welsh's applications differ, why do they differ and what effect it has on the reader and the text itself.
