Hume's Philosophy of Religion and Deism

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje filosofii náboženství v 17. a 18. století. Práce je zaměřena především na srovnání deismu a filosofie náboženství u Davida Huma, který je považován za zakladatele moderní filosofie náboženství. V úvodu je stručně pojednán obsah celé práce. První kapitola je věnována charakteristice osvícenství v 17. a 18.století. Zmíněn je také mechanicismus u René Descarta a Isaaca Newtona, kterými se deisté inspirovali. Další část se zabývá nejprve charakteristikou deismu obecně a následně deistickými koncepcemi v anglickém, francouzském a německém osvícenství. V rámci anglického deismu je pojednáno zejména o J. Tolandovi, A. Collinsovi a M. Tindalovi. Z francouzských deistů jsou porovnány názory Volataira a J-J. Rousseaua. V části o deismu německém je pojednáno o H. S. Reimarovi, S. Semlerovi a G. E. Lessingovi. Poslední třetí část je věnována filosofii náboženství Davida Huma a jeho vztahu k deismu.

Abstract:

The author pays attention to the philosophy of religion in the 17th and 18th century. The work is particularly focused on deism compared to the philosophy of David Hume, the founder of the modern philosophy of religion. The introductory part summarizes the whole thesis. The first chapter presents the characteristic of the Enlightenment in the 17th and 18th century. The chapter also makes mention of Mechanism by René Descartes and Isaac Newton who the deists were inspired by. Next part of the thesis introduces the characteristic of deism in general first, afterwards it deals with the deists' conception during the Age of Enlightenment in Britain, France and Germany. Within the English Enlightenment the work specifically pays attention to J. Toland, A. Collins and M. Tindal. Within the French deists it compares Voltaire's and J. J. Rousseau's thoughts. Within German deism the work presents H. S. Reimar, S. Semler and G. E. Lessing. The last part of the thesis deals with the philosophy of religion by David Hume and his relationship with deism.
