The Burakumin – Japan’s Invisible Minority

Abstract:

The goal of this thesis is to explore the discrimination of the burakumin minority in Japan. This so called ‘invisible minority‘ is a part of Japanese etnic. In the first part of the thesis is described the burakumin minority and its origin. This part also focused on basic factors that determine the discrimination of burakumin. In the next part of the thesis are described individual periods of Japanese history. Throughout history, the social status of burakumin has changed. This thesis also focused on rules that burakumin were forced to observe. At the same time, current problems that burakumin are confronted by are analyzed. The thesis is concerned mainly with the trouble which can occur at the workplace and when looking for marriage partner. In the last part, the thesis will deal with the contemporary research of the situation of burakumin in present Japan.

Abstract:

Cieľom bakalárskej práce je preskúmať diskrimináciu menšiny burakumin v Japonsku. Táto tzv. neviditeľná menšina je súčasťou japonského etnika. V prvej časti práce je popísaná menšina burakumin a jej pôvod. Ďalej sa práca zameriava na popis základných faktorov, ktoré vymedzujú diskrimináciu voči menšine burakumin. Nasledujúca časť práce venuje pozornosť jednotlivým obdobiam japonskej histórie, počas ktorých možno sledovať vývoj postavenia skupiny burakumin. Vysoký dôraz je kladený na prísne pravidlá, ktoré boli burakumin nútení dodržiavať. Zároveň sú v práci skúmané novodobé problémy tejto menšiny. Práca sa zameriava predovšetkým na ich súčasné problémy v práci a pri uzatváraní manželských zväzkov. Posledný oddiel bakalárskej práce sa venuje výskumu zameraného na dnešnú situáciu menšiny burakumin, ktorý bol zameraný na japonské obyvateľstvo.
