Medical tourism and its possible development in the Czech republic

Abstract:

Cílem práce je analyzovat situaci a konkurenční výhody medicínského cestovního ruchu v České republice. Vedlejším cílem je na základě provedené SWOT analýzy, navrhnout plán podpory, který by vedl k rozvoji tohoto segmentu cestovního ruchu. V první části práce vymezuji pojem zdravotně orientovaný cestovní ruch, který následně rozděluji na lázeňský cestovní ruch, wellness cestovní ruch a medicínský cestovní ruch. Dále uvádím šest motivů účasti na medicínském cestovním ruchu, na základě kterých se medicínští turisté rozhodují podstoupit zdravotní zákrok v cizině. Poslední kapitolu věnuji marketingové komunikaci, kde se zabývám jednotlivými nástroji marketingového komunikačního mixu. Druhá část práce je zaměřena především na celkovém zhodnocení situace medicínského cestovního ruchu v ČR a představení čtyř subjektů zapojených do tohoto segmentu. Nechybí ani výčet oborů medicíny vhodných pro medicínský cestovní ruch, včetně porovnání cen zdravotních výkonů mezi třemi evropskými zeměmi, a to Německem Velkou Británií a Českou republikou. Veškeré poznatky z této kapitoly jsou posléze popsány ve SWOT analýze, která je výchozí pro vytvoření třetí části práce, a na jejímž základě je navržen plán podpory rozvoje tohoto segmentu cestovního ruchu, který se z větší části týká zlepšení marketingové propagace, a tím i většího povědomí potenciálních medicínských turistů o České republice.

Abstract:

The objective of this thesis is to analyse current situation and competitive advantages of medical tourism in Czech Republic. According to a SWOT analysis there is a secondary objective which is to design a plan of support. Outcome of this plan is a development of medical tourism. In the first part of the thesis there is a definition of health-oriented tourism which was divided into spa tourism, wellness tourism and medical tourism. Afterwards there are described six main motives for participation in medical tourism which motivate the medical tourist to undergo a medical treatment in a foreign country. Last chapter of the first part is dedicated to marketing communication. All components were characterized. The second part is focused on evaluation of the situation of medical tourism in Czech Republic and a presentation of four subjects involved in this segment of tourism. As well there is list of medical fields suitable for medical tourism, including comparison of prices for medical treatments in three European countries – Germany, Great Britain and Czech Republic. Findings from this part were used in SWOT analysis which was the basis or the third part of this thesis. In the third part there is a plan designed for the development of the medical tourism in Czech Republic. The principle of the plan is in an improvement of marketing and thus potential medical tourists would have a greater awareness of the Czech Republic as of a medical tourism destination.
