Cannibalism in domestic laying hens

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce bylo vypracovat analýzu příčin vzniku a metod prevence a řešení výskytu kanibalismu u kura domácího nosného typu, který se v chovech při nedodržení určitých podmínek může vyskytnout. Bakalářská práce popisuje jednotlivé aspekty, které s vývinem kanibalismu úzce souvisí. Jedná se zejména o šlechtění nosnic, technologii chovu, kam zahrnujeme velikost klecí, počet nosnic na jednotku plochy při volném ustájení a velikost výběhů, osvětlení nebo mikroklima. Dále je v této práci kladen velký důraz na welfare nosnic. Poté je konkrétně popsán kanibalismus, který vzniká při stresování nosnic nedodržením jednotlivých aspektů, následně jsou popsány preventivní kroky k jeho zamezení jako je například správná intenzita a barva osvětlení, technologie ustájení a případná terapie při jeho propuknutí. Tato práce má za cíl ukázat, že se jedná o velký problém, kterému je velice důležité předcházet a při nedodržení prevence a jeho propuknutí se těžce kanibalismus v hejnu eliminuje. Doporučila bych práci jednak pro začínající chovatele nosnic nosného typu, ale také pro chovatele, kteří se kanibalismu chtějí vyhnout.

Abstract:

The main aim of this bachelor thesis was to analyse the causes and methods of prevention and solution of cannibalism in domestic laying hens, which can occur in breeding if certain conditions are not observed. The bachelor thesis describes the different aspects that are closely related to the development of cannibalism. These include, in particular, the breeding of laying hens, the rearing technology, which includes the size of the cages, the number of laying hens per unit area in free-range housing and the size of the runs, lighting or microclimate. In addition, a great deal of emphasis is placed on the welfare of laying hens. Cannibalism, which arises when laying hens are stressed by non-compliance with these aspects, is then specifically described, followed by preventive steps to avoid it, such as the correct intensity and colour of lighting, housing technology and possible therapy when it breaks out. This work aims to show that this is a major problem that is very important to prevent and that if prevention is not followed and outbreaks occur, it is difficult to eliminate cannibalism in the flock. I would recommend this work both for beginning breeders of laying hens, but also for breeders who want to avoid cannibalism.
