The most frequent German abbreviations and their counterparts in Czech

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the search and subsequent analysis of Czech equivalents to German most used abbreviations with the help of the corpus and dictionary of German abbreviations data. The main objective of this thesis is comparison of the frequency of common or similar abbreviations, ie. whether abbreviations in both languages are used equally extensively for identical words or phrases. The theoretical part focuses on the description of German and Czech abbreviations from the perspective of several authors, who deal in their publications with language specificity, issues and typology of abbreviations. In the practical part uses a list of representative samples of the most common German abbreviations from the German corpus DeReKo, from which going to be selected the first 100 most common abbreviations. Then they going to be analyzed by using the InterCorp de-cs und cs-de corpus and the German dictionary of abbreviations. The result of this work providing representative statistical data on the percentage of equivalent abbreviations (in terms of their meaning and use) and also a list of abbreviation, that are used in both languages in the same form or meaning. It also providing results on how many of these are German abbreviations or international abbreviations (for example abbreviations of the metric system). At the same time, will be possible to get an idea of the composition of this sample of abbreviations.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vyhledáním a následnou analýzou českých ekvivalentů k nejpoužívanějším německým zkratkám pomocí korpusových a slovníkových dat. Hlavním cílem této práce je srovnání četnosti ekvivalentních nebo podobných zkratek, tzn. zda se zkratky v obou jazycích používají pro stejná slova nebo fráze. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na popis německých a českých zkratek z pohledu několika autorů, kteří se ve svých publikacích zabývají jazykovou specifičností, problematikou a typologií zkratek. V praktické části je použit seznam reprezentativního vzorku nejběžnějších německých zkratek z německého korpusu DeReKo, ze kterých bude vybráno prvních 100 nejčastějších zkratek. Ty poté budou analyzovány pomocí InterCorp de-cs und cs-de a německého slovníku zkratek. Výsledkem této práce je poskytnutí reprezentativních statistických údajů o procentu ekvivalentních zkratek (z hlediska jejich významu a použití) a také seznam zkratek, které se používají v obou jazycích ve stejné formě nebo smyslu. Poskytuje také výsledky o tom, kolik z nich jsou německé zkratky nebo mezinárodní zkratky (například zkratky metrického systému). Současně bude možné získat představu o složení tohoto vzorku zkratek.
