Transnationalism of Greeks living in Prague

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na transnacionalismus řecké minority v Praze. Ve spojitosti s vytvářením a udržováním transnacionálních vazeb v rámci transnacionálních sociálních sítí a polí, se zaměřuje na uvědomování a posilování řecké etnické identity. Teoretická část přibližuje okolnosti řecké emigrace, s následnou deskripcí situace v České republice. Dále se zabývá koncepty úzce souvisejícími s transnacionalismem, jsou jimi nacionalismus a mezietnický kontakt. Praktická část zkoumá, zda si Řekové vzhledem k dlouholetému pobytu v České republice udrželi svoji etnickou identitu a zda ji podporují nejen lokální, ale též transnacionální vazby.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on transnationalism of Greek minority in Prague. In connection with the creation and maintenance of transnational ties within transnational social networks and arrays, focuses on awareness and appreciation of Greek ethnic identity. The theoretical part describes the circumstances of Greek emigration, with subsequent description of situation in the Czech Republic. It also deals with concepts closely related to transnationalism, they are nationalism and inter-ethnic contact. The practical part examines whether the Greeks, due to long residence in the Czech Republic, maintain their ethnic identity and whether it is supported by not only local, but also transnational ties.
