Somaliland's relations with the states of the Horn of Africa region

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na vývoj a definici de facto států a jejich zahraniční politiku, s konkrétním zaměřením na Somaliland. V teoretické části práce je zkoumán vývoj a definice de facto států, spolu s jejich pozicí v mezinárodním systému a zahraničními vztahy. V empirické části je provedena analýza historie a vzniku Somalilandu, s důrazem na jeho zahraniční politiku a vztahy s mateřským státem Somálskem a také s Etiopií. Práce je zpracována jako kvalitativní případová studie. Cílem práce je představit Somaliland jako de facto stát a komplexně posoudit jeho vztahy se státy afrického rohu. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována strategiím, které Somaliland využívá v přístupu k Etiopii a Somálsku v politické, ekonomické a sociální oblasti. Dále je zkoumána možnost reintegrace Somálska a Somalilandu. Tato práce přináší důkladnou analýzu vztahů Somalilandu se státy afrického rohu a poskytuje hlubší porozumění dynamiky zahraniční politiky de facto států.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the development and definition of de facto states and their foreign policy, with a specific emphasis on Somaliland. The theoretical part of the thesis examines the evolution and definition of de facto states, along with their position in the international system and foreign relations. The empirical section analyzes the history and emergence of Somaliland, with a focus on its foreign policy and relationships with its parent state, Somalia, and Ethiopia. The thesis is conducted as a qualitative case study. The aim of the thesis is to present Somaliland as a de facto state and comprehensively assess its relationships with the African Horn states. Special attention is given to the strategies employed by Somaliland in its approach to Ethiopia and Somalia in the political, economic, and social spheres. Furthermore, the possibility of reintegration between Somalia and Somaliland is examined. This thesis provides a thorough analysis of Somaliland's relationships with the African Horn states.
