The monitoring of diesel phytodegradation in soil with RemScan device

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá fytodegradací nafty v půdě s využitím energetické rostliny Miscanthus x giganteus (Mxg) a jejím monitoringem pomocí přenosného přístroje RemScan. Na základě monitoringu naftou řízeně znečištěné výzkumné plochy osázené z poloviny rostlinami Mxg (sekce M1-M5) a z poloviny bez osázení (sekce C1-C5) práce ověřuje hypotézu, že Mxg podporuje degradaci ropných uhlovodíků v půdě (dochází k jejich fytodegradaci). Dílčím cílem práce je posouzení možnosti využití přístroje RemScan pro monitoring takového typu znečištění a jeho porovnání s tradičně využívanou analýzou C10-C40. Experiment probíhal v reálných podmínkách na lokalitě Ahníkov (Chomutov). Vzorky půdy byly odebrány z hloubek 0-10 cm, 10-20 cm a 20-30 cm 4x během sezóny 2022. Následně byly změřeny přístrojem RemScan v režimu "site specific" dle pokynů výrobce a byl vyhodnocen úbytek nafty v jednotlivých variantách a hloubkách. Druhá sada vzorků (0-30 cm) byla odebrána pro potřeby porovnání hodnot naměřených pomocí RemScan a standardní analýzy C10-C40 pomocí GC/FID. Naměřené hodnoty obsahu ropných látek (TPH) v sekcích M a C naznačují, že fytodegradace v přítomnosti Mxg probíhá, neboť pokles na osázených plochách byl ve sledovaném období vyšší než na plochách kontrolních. Porovnání hodnot naměřených přenosným přístrojem RemScan a laboratorní analýzou C10-C40 vykazovalo však průměrnou relativní chybu 29 %. Rozptyl relativních chyb byl 8 % až 60 %. Toto zjištění je třeba vzít v úvahu při interpretaci předchozích závěrů o průběhu fytodegradace s Mxg. Využití přístroje RemScan k monitoringu znečištění ve sledovaných koncentracích (do 30 g/kg) je tedy omezené a výsledky je třeba považovat pouze za orientační.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis deals with the phytodegradation of diesel in soil using the energy plant Miscanthus x giganteus (Mxg) and its monitoring using the RemScan portable device. Based on monitoring of the controlled oil-polluted research area half planted with the Mxg plants (section M1-M5) and half without planting (section C1-C5), the work verifies the hypothesis that Mxg promotes the degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil (their phytodegradation). The partial objective of the work is to evaluate the possibility of using the RemScan instrument for monitoring such type of pollution and comparing it with the traditionally used C10-C40 analysis. The experiment took place in real conditions at the site of Ahníkov (Chomutov). Soil samples were taken from depths of 0-10 cm, 10-20 cm and 20-30 cm 4 times during the 2022 season. Then, they were measured by the RemScan device in "site specific" mode, according to the manufacturer's instructions, and the loss of diesel in individual variants and depths was assessed. A second set of samples (0-30 cm) was taken to compare the measurements of RemScan and the standard C10-C40 analysis using GC/FID. Measured levels of petroleum substancecompounds (TPH) in sections M and C indicate that phytodegradation in the presence of Mxg is ongoing, as the decline in planted areas was higher than in control areas in the monitored period. However, a comparison of the readings measured by the RemScan portable device and the C10-C40 laboratory analysis showed a mean relatove error of 29 % and the variance of the relative errors was from 8 % to 60 %. This finding should be taken into account when interpreting previous conclusions about phytodegradation with Mxg. The use of the RemScan instrument to monitor pollution at monitored concentrations (up to 30 g/kg) is therefore limited and the results should only be considered as preliminary.
