Impact of the Financial Situation on the Quality of Life of High School Students

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá vliv finanční situace na kvalitu života středoškolských studentů. Cílem práce bylo vyhodnotit vliv finanční situace na životní spokojenost středoškolských studentů a na další aspekty jejich života. Data byla získána pomocí dotazníkového šetření, které proběhlo na 11 středních školách Karlovarského a Ústeckého kraje. Dotazníkového šetření se zúčastnilo 1 414 respondentů. Pro zjištění vlivu finanční situace na kvalitu života byla využita metoda regresní analýzy, konkrétně se jednalo o lineární regresi s aproximací metody nejmenších čtverců. Využití této metody umožňuje jednodušší interpretovatelnost. Výsledky lineárního modelu jsou podpořeny modelem nelineární logistické regrese. Regresní model obsahuje v prvé řadě proměnné charakterizující finanční situaci, kterými jsou průměrné měsíční kapesné, průměrný měsíční příjem, průměrná roční útrata za dárky a hodnocení finanční situace. Rovněž obsahuje další aspekty života respondentů, které mají potenciální vliv na kvalitu života. Vliv proměnných, charakterizující finanční situaci, kterými jsou průměrné měsíční kapesné, průměrný měsíční příjem a průměrné roční výdaje na dárky, na kvalitu života nebyl prokázán. Byl ale potvrzen významný pozitivní vliv u proměnné hodnocení finanční situace studentů na kvalitu života. Rovněž bylo prokázáno, že spolu s hodnocením finanční situace má na kvalitu života pozitivní vliv čas trávený s přáteli, zdravotní stav a vztah s rodiči. Podle modelu hodnotí studenti gymnázií kvalitu živote lépe, než studenti středních odborných škol. Na hodnocení finanční situace mají pozitivní vliv proměnné charakterizující finanční stav. Dle regresního modelu jsou ženy se svou finanční situací méně spokojené než muži. Čím je věk středoškolských studentů vyšší, tím hodnotí svou finanční situaci jako nepříznivou.V dalších modelech byl zkoumán vliv finanční situace na průměrný počet vykouřených cigaret a na průměrnou délku času tráveného s přáteli. Průměrný počet vykouřených cigaret má dle hlavního regresního modelu negativní vliv na kvalitu života. Výše měsíčního kapesného, měsíčního příjmu i hodnocení finanční situace mají silný pozitivní vztah k počtu vykouřených cigaret. Průměrný čas trávený s přáteli má dle hlavního regresního modelu pozitivní vliv na kvalitu života. Vliv finančních faktorů na délku času tráveného s přáteli nebyl prokázán.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis examines the influence of the financial situation on the quality of life of high school students. The aim of the thesis was to evaluate the influence of the financial situation on life satisfaction of high school students and on other aspects of their lives. The data was collected by a questionnaire survey which took place at 11 high schools in the Karlovy Vary and Usti nad Labem regions. The questionnaire survey was answered by 1 414 respondents. To determine the influence of the financial situation on the quality of life the method of linear regression with OLS approximation was applied. The usage of this method enables an easier interpretation. The results of the linear method are supported by the non-linear method of logistic regression. The regression method contains variables that characterise the financial situation by an average monthly pocket money, an average monthly salary, an average annual spending on gifts and an evaluation of the financial situation. It also contains other aspects of the life of respondents which have a potential effect on the quality of life. The effect of variables characterising the financial situation, which are the average monthly pocket money, the average monthly salary and the average spending on gifts, has not been proven. However, the significant positive effect has been proven at the variable that evaluates the financial situation of the students on the quality of their lives. Also, it has been proven that alongside with the evaluation of the financial situation, the time spent with friends, health condition and a relationship with parents, has a positive effect on the quality of life. Moreover, the model has proven that gymnasium students evaluate the quality of life better than secondary vocational school's students. The variables characterising the financial situation have a positive influence on the evaluation of the financial situation. According to the regression model, women are less satisfied with their financial situation than men. The high school students say that the higher is their age of, the less prosperous is their financial situation. In next models, the influence of the financial situation on the number of smoked cigarettes and on the length of time spent with friends was examined. The average number of smoked cigarettes has according to the main regression model a negative impact on the quality of life. The amount of monthly pocket money, monthly salary and evaluation of the financial situation are strongly positively interlinked with the number of smoked cigarettes. The average time spent with friends has according to the main regression model a positive impact on the quality of life. The influence of financial factors on the length of time spent with friends has not been proven.
