The Czech exile: literary creation of Jaroslav Vejvoda

Abstract:

Práce s názvem Český exil: tvorba Jaroslava Vejvody se zabývá především pěti knihami, které autor vydal po emigraci v roce 1968 v zahraničí. Text je uveden nejprve krátkým pohledem do Vejvodova života. Jádro celé práce tvoří podrobná analýza tří povídkových sbírek a dvou románů, které byly vydány v torontském nakladatelství ´68 Publishers. Zde je kladen důraz na důkladné pojmenování a interpretaci témat, o kterých autor pojednával. Práce sleduje zejména vývoj postav emigrantů. Důležitou složkou je zařazení vybraných ukázek, které doplňují předchozí myšlenky. V následujících částech se práce věnuje rozebráním dalších prvků autorova stylu, komparací s jinými tématicky blízkými autory a zařazením osobnosti Jaroslava Vejvody do literatury exilové.

Abstract:

My work entitled The Czech Exile: Jaroslav Vejvoda´s Writings deals above all with five books that the author published abroad after the emigration in 1968. At first the text is introduced by short perspective to the Vejvoda´s life. The core of the whole work creates the detailed analysis of three story collections and two novels which were issued in the Toronto publishing house ´68 Publishers. The careful denomination and interpretation of the themes the author dealt with are emphasized there. The work particularly follows the development of the emigrant characters. The important part is the placing of the selected exemplifications that supplement previous ideas. In the following parts the work is dedicated to the disassembling of the additional elements of the author´s style, then to the comparing with the other thematically close authors and to the including of the Jaroslav Vejvoda´s personality in the exiled literature.
