Relations between the European Union and the Republic of South Africa

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vztahy mezi Evropskou unií a Jihoafrickou republikou se zaměřením na obchod a rozvojovou spolupráci. Cílem této práce je proto charakterizovat a zhodnotit tyto dvě oblasti a poukázat na jejich možný budoucí vývoj. První kapitola slouží jako úvod do problematiky rozvojové pomoci, spolupráce a rozvojové politiky EU. Druhá kapitola se poté věnuje historickému vývoji a právnímu rámci spolupráce EU s JAR. Zde je důraz kladen na význam Dohody o obchodu, rozvoji a spolupráci a vzniku Strategického partnerství EU - JAR. Třetí kapitola na základě analýzy obchodních toků (zboží, služeb a přímých zahraničních investic) vysvětluje význam a sílu vazby mezi EU a JAR. Je zde charakterizován vývoj jednotlivých toků a jejich komoditní a teritoriální struktura. Poslední část práce je věnována rozvojové spolupráci, kde je poukázáno na největší rozvojové problémy JAR, priority spolupráce a konkrétní zapojení EU v pomoci včetně zhodnocení otázky budoucnosti spolupráce.

Abstract:

This theses deals with relations between the European Union and the Republic of South Africa focusing on trade and development cooperation. The aim of the theses is to characterize and evaluate these two areas and point out their possible future development. The first chapter serves as an introduction to development assistance, cooperation and EU development policy. The second chapter deals with the evolution of mutual relations and legal framework for EU cooperation with the Republic of South Africa. The emphasis is put on the Trade, Development and Cooperation Agreement and the creation of EU - South Africa Partnership. The third chapter explains the importance of relationships between the EU and the Republic of South Africa on the basis of analysis of trade flows (goods, services and foreign direct investments). The development of trade flows and their commodity and torritorial structure is described here. The last chapter of this theses deals with development cooperation focusing on the biggest development challenges in the Republic of South Africa, priorities for cooperation and particular involvement of the EU including evaluation of its possible future development.
