Modern Slavery - Case Study of Qatar

Abstract:

Tradiční forma otroctví byla sice globálně zakázána, její novodobá forma však přetrvává. V moderním otroctví se aktuálně nachází asi 50 milionů lidí, jedná se tedy o urgentní problém, který se v nějaké podobě dotýká takřka všech zemí světa. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá případem státu Katar, který moderním otroctvím neblaze proslul v souvislosti s Mistrovstvím světa ve fotbale 2022, které bylo v zemi pořádáno. Autorka rozděluje práci do několika částí, přičemž se zaměřuje na nedůstojné podmínky, kterým čelí migranti v Kataru, a snaží se jejich situaci zmapovat a hlouběji pochopit. Důraz je kladen zejména na porovnání existujících definic moderního otroctví s realitou státu Katar.

Abstract:

Traditional form slavery was banned globally, but its modern version still persists. There are approximately 50 million people in modern slavery nowadays, making it an urgent problem that affects almost every country in the world. This bachelor thesis deals with the case of Qatar, which became infamous in connection with the 2022 FIFA World Cup organized there. The author divides the thesis into several parts, focusing especially on the undignified conditions migrants to this country have to face, endeavoring to assess the situation and gain a deeper understanding of it. Emphasis is placed mainly on the comparison of existing definitions of modern slavery with the reality in Qatar.
