Stanovení aminokyselin je v klinické medicíně považováno za důležitý ukazatel funkce metabolismu. Nízká hladina proteinogenních aminokyselin v těle vede k nedostatečné syntéze bílkovin. Pro stanovení aminokyselin ve vzorcích tělních tekutin je nutné použít dostatečně citlivou analytickou metodu, která nevyžaduje vysokou spotřebu vzorku.
