The position of the forestry and wood processing industry in the European Union candidate countries in South-Eastern Europe

Abstract:

Oblast jihovýchodní Evropy patří stále k evropsky opomíjeným částem, ovšem v poslední době její význam nabývá důležitosti, především pak v souvislosti se spuštěním přístupových jednání států z této oblasti do Evropské Unie. Proto by mělo být tématem i udržitelné lesnictví s řádnou certifikací, cirkulární ekonomika, transparentní účetnictví či nulová korupce. Práce se tedy věnuje analýze lesnického sektoru a dřevozpracujícího průmyslu v této oblasti a klade si za cíl objasnit aktuální situaci. Výsledková část práce ovšem ukazuje, že lesnictví není v příliš optimální kondici, ba naopak v některých státech, je palčivým problémem a dusícím hrdlem pro dřevozpracující průmysl. Dřevozpracující průmysl je pak rozvinut téměř pouze ve dvou z pěti států a porovnání cen státních podniků, těchto výhradně sousedních států ukazuje na špatné nastavování cen dřevních sortimentů.

Abstract:

The region of South-Eastern Europe is still one of the neglected parts of Europe, but recently it has become increasingly important, especially in connection with the start of accession negotiations of the countries from this region to the European Union. Therefore, sustainable forestry with proper certification, circular economy, transparent accounting or zero corruption should also be a topic. The thesis therefore analyses the forestry sector and the timber industry in this area and aims to clarify the current situation. However, the result part of the thesis shows that the forestry sector is not in a very optimal condition, on the contrary, in some states, it is a burning problem and a choke point for the timber industry. The timber industry is then developed in almost only two of the five states and a comparison of the prices of state-owned enterprises, these exclusively neighbouring states shows the poor pricing of timber products.
