Means of displaying a life in a concentration camp in the works Spark of Life and The Playing for Time

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce představuje dvě díla spojená tématem koncentračního tábora. Konkrétně se jedná o dílo Jiskra života od Ericha Maria Remarqua a Dívčí orchestr od Fanie Fénelonové. Kritériem výběru daných děl byla rozdílná zkušenost autorů s uvězněním v koncentračním táboře. Toto kritérium je v práci zkoumáno a zobrazuje shody a odlišnosti v pojetí života v koncentračním táboře v daných dílech. Teoretická část se zabývá životy autorů, metodami srovnávání témat a motivů z hlediska literární komparatistiky a metodologií narativních strategií. Získané teoretické poznatky jsou využity v praktické části, ve které dochází ke komparativní analýze zkoumaných děl, díky které docházíme k závěru.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis presents the two works of the literature focused on the topic of concentration camps. The first of them is a novel Spark of Life written by Erich Maria Remarque, the second one is Playing for Time written by Fania Fénelon. A different experience of the authors with imprisonment in concentration camps was the criterion for choosing these novels. This criterion is analysed in the work and it depicts differences of the concept of life in these hard conditions. The theoretical part deals with the life of authors, a methodology of comparison between themes and between motives and a methodology of narrative strategies. The practical part encompasses theoretical knowledge and uses it for a comparative analysis of the examined works. The result is summed up in the conclusion.
