Galician in the past and present in comparison with Portuguese

Abstract:

This dissertation studies the region and the historical facts leading to the emergence of Galician and Portuguese, as well as describing the political events that have brought about the situation for Galician today. It presents the opinions of philologists and linguists with regard to the position of Galician in relation to Portuguese and their possible single origin. Despite the great similarity of the two languages, there are many differences in their phonetics, morphology and syntax. Some of these differences are presented here.

Abstract:

Tato magisterská práce mapuje území a historická fakta, která vedla ke vzniku galicijštiny a portugalštiny a popisuje politické události, které zapříčinily současnou situaci galicijštiny. Předkládá názory filologů a lingvistů ohledně postavení galicijštiny ve vztahu s portugalštinou a jejich možnému jednotnému původu. I přes značnou podobnost obou jazyků existují mezi nimi rozdíly ve fonetice, morfologii a syntaxi. Některé z těchto rozdílů jsou v této práci prezentovány.
