The Effects of Selected Chemical Agents on Human Dental Tissues

Abstract:

Lidské zuby jsou v průběhu života vystavovány mnoha vlivům majícím za následek barevné změny zubních tkání a narušení jejich integrity. Chrup člověka podléhá abrazi, erozi způsobené látkami o nízkém pH, diskoloraci a dalším změnám. Obdobné změny postihují chrup také po smrti jedince. V této práci jsou v rámci tří experimentů popsány, zdokumentovány a porovnány některé z těchto změn způsobené vybranými druhy hydroxidů, kyselin, nápojů a přípravků pro ústní hygienu. Změny byly posuzovány pomocí rentgenových snímků, měřením délkových rozměrů, vážení vzorků a srovnáváním barvy s barevným vzorníkem. Bylo pozorováno, že všechny kyseliny byly již při 5% koncentraci schopné v různé míře způsobit demineralizaci a erozi zubních tkání. Nejnáchylnější k erozi byla díky své velké mineralizaci sklovina. Diskolorace naopak nejvíce postihovaly cement a kořenový dentin. Čištění zubů způsobilo zpomalení zabarvení skloviny zubů u všech sledovaných kapalin – čaje, kávy i ústních vod.

Abstract:

Human teeth are exposed to many influences which result in discoloration of dental tissues and disruption of their integrity. Human teeth are affected by abrasion, erosion caused by substances of low pH, discoloration and other changes. Similar changes also affect the teeth after death of the individual. This thesis describes, documents and compares in three experiments some of the changes caused by selected kinds of hydroxide, acids, beverages and mouth rinses. Changes were assessed by radiographs, linear measurements, estimation of weight of the samples and comparison the color with the shade guide. It was observed that all acids were at even 5 % concentration able to cause demineralisation and erosion of dental tissues. Particularly vulnerable to erosion was enamel due to its high mineralization. On the contrary most affected by discoloration were cement and root dentin. Brushing the teeth caused slowdown of discoloration in case of all studied liquids – tea, coffee and mouth rinses.
