Transcending Realities Through Photographic Medium: A Study of Spatial Compositions in Contemporary Photography

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o fotografii a jejích specifikách jako je negativ a otisk, fragment a časoprostorové vztahy. Teoretická část uvažuje o vizualitě, která souvisí s vývojem média fotografie i jeho všudypřítomností. Kapitoly zahrnují témata: Fotografie a Socha, Otisk, Morfologie a Digitální sochařství, ve kterých jsou komparativně popsány inspirativní umělecké přístupy. V části obhajoby vlastní práce je reflektována předchozí tvorba usazená do kontextu a poznatků popsaných v teoretické části. Praktická práce s názvem Imprinted Into the Void akcentuje nové vizuální zkušenosti, které přináší myšlení skrze fotografii s důrazem na autoportrét a jeho otisk v prostoru. Dílo pracuje s abstrahovanou morfologií tvarů nacházených v procesu tvorby v dialogu s používanými technologiemi. Zároveň je komentářem k pocitu vyprázdnění fyzické podstaty a absence v kontextu digitálního světa. Metaforicky se zabývá tématem cyklického hledání jako lidské přirozenosti a také impulzu k tvorbě.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with photography and its specifics such as negative and print, fragment and spatiotemporal relations. The theoretical part considers visuality, which is related to the development of the medium of photography and its ubiquity. The chapters include Photography and Sculpture, Imprint, Morphology and Digital Sculpture, in which inspiring artistic approaches are described comparatively. The section defending the thesis reflects on previous work set in the context and knowledge described in the theoretical section. The practical work entitled Imprinted Into the Void emphasizes the new visual experiences brought about by thinking through photography with an emphasis on the self-portrait and its imprint in space and the abstracted morphology of its shapes, found in the process of creation in dialogue with the technologies used. It is also a commentary on the feeling of the emptying of physicality and absence in the context of the digital world, and metaphorically addresses the themes of cyclical search as both human nature and creative impulse to create.
