Abstract:

Využitie strojového učenia v športovej oblasti je v dnešnej dobe veľmi populárna téma. Ľadový hokej nie je výnimkou. Autor tejto práce vytvoril komplexnú dátovú množinu, ktorá spája metriky uverejňované Národnou Hokejovou Ligou (NHL). Následne na tejto množine natrénoval a experimentálne otestoval vybrané techniky strojového učenia. Výsledky sú porovnateľné s ostatnými štúdiami v tejto oblasti. Ďalším prínosom tejto práce je vytvorenie rozhodovacieho mechanizmu pre stávkovanie, ktorého výsledky naznačujú, že s pomocou neurónových sietí sa dá dosiahnuť v dlhodobom horizonte zisk.

Abstract:

The use of machine learning techniques in sports has received a lot of attention in recent years. Ice hockey, especially National Hockey League (NHL), is no exception. This thesis stages an experiment, where we compare four machine learning techniques implementations from python library sklearn -- Support Vector Machine, Naive Bayes, Neural Network, and Decision Tree. We test their prediction accuracy on a custom-made data set from the NHL's official website. The best performing classifier reaches 62\% of correct predictions, which ranks well among other researches in this area. Another topic of interest of this thesis is an implementation of a loss function for a Neural Network classifier to create a betting model. The results are promising as the model reaches an average profit of 19.3\% throughout three full NHL seasons.
