The Impact of Human-Animal Interactions as the Part of Teaching in the Common Class in the 1st Level of Elementary Schools

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vlivem humánně-animálních interakcí na děti v běžné třídě na prvním stupni základní školy. V teoretické části popisuji historii vývoje pouta člověka a zvířete, konkrétně psa a člověka. V úvodu práce vymezuji terminologii v dané problematice. Dále se věnuji teoretickým východiskům humánně-animálních interakcí a zejména zahraničním studiím, prokazujícím jisté benefity vycházející z interakcí člověka a zvířete. V empirické části prezentuji kvaziexperiment s neekvivalentní porovnávací skupinou. Data byla získána dotazníkovým šetřením, systematickým pozorováním a posuzovacími škálami. Výzkumný soubor tvořila výzkumná a porovnávací skupina. Každá čítala celkem 18 žáků. Všichni žáci vyplňovali dotazník SPAS k měření sebepojetí školní úspěšnosti a to celkem dvakrát. Poprvé před započetím šestitýdenní intervence s humánně-animálními interakcemi a podruhé po této intervenci. Všichni žáci rovněž vyplňovali dotazník Naše třída k měření třídního klimatu a byli podrobeni strukturovanému pozorování. Intervence s humánně-animálními interakcemi probíhala pouze ve výzkumném souboru a zde byly také použity posuzovací škály k doplnění údajů. Data z obou skupin byla poté statisticky analyzována. Zjistila jsem, že motivace ke školní práci se díky humánně-animálním interakcím významně změnila k lepšímu. Významnější zlepšení nálady, třídního klimatu a sebepojetí se prokázat nepodařilo.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the influence of Human-Animal Interactions on children in the common class in the first level of elementary school. In the theoretical part, I am describing the history of development of the Human-Animal bond, specifically the human-canine bond. In the introduction, I am delimiting the terminology in this issue. Further, I am dealing with the theoretical basis of Human-Animal Interactions, particularly with the foreign studies, which prove certain benefits of Human-Animal Interactions. In the empirical part, I am presenting the quasi-experimental study with the nonequivalent control group. The data were obtained with the questionnaire, systematic observation and with judging scales. The research sample was comprised of the treatment group and the comparison group. Each group was consisted of 18 pupils. All of the pupils filled out the SPAS form twice, before and after the 6-week intervention with Human-Animal Interactions. All of them also filled out the „Naše třída“ questionnaire and were systematicaly observed. Intervention with Human-Animal Interactions took place only in the treatment group, in which were also used judging scales to get the additional data. The data from both groups were then statisticaly analyzed. I have found out, that motivation to do school work has changed in the postive way due to the Human-Animal Interactions. I did not manage to prove significant improvement of the mood, the climate or the self-concept.
