The focus of this thesis is the 2014 reinterpretation of article 9 of the japanese constitution and its influence on the Japan-U.S. alliance. This thesis is intended as an introduction into the subject of article 9. For this reason, the first chapter aims to explain the historical context behind article 9, starting after the Second World War.
