Max Weber and his conception of state

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je věnována dílu Maxe Webera v oblasti politické sociologie.Hlavní cíl této práce je poprat a analyzovat Weberovu teorii státu a teorii moci. Weber je autorem teorie panství, teorie legálního panství založené na legitimitě, byrokracii a fyzické síle. Hlavní výzkumná otázka zní, zda je moc moderního státu příčino či následkem jeho existence a fungování. První část práce obsahuje analýzu přístupů k teorii moci a teorii státu. Jsou zde představeny hlavní ideologické přístupy (Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Marx, Weber, Foucault, Nozick a Dahl) a komparovány s ohledem na Weberův přístup. Druhá část této práce obsahuje analýzu Weberovy teorie moci a jeho koncept legálního panství moderního státu. První část analýzy zahrnuje analýzu panství, rozdělení jednotlivých druhů panství a jeho nástroje. Druhá část zahrnuje analýzu vztahu legality a legitimity. Třetí část obsahuje závěrečnou syntézu: odpovídá na hlavní výzkumnou otázku. Dochází k závěru, že legální panství moderního státu je důsledkem existence moderního státu, nikoliv jeho příčinou.

Abstract:

My bachelor work is devoted to the work of German sociologist Max Weber in the range of political sociology. The main aim of this work is to describe and analyze Weber?s theory of state and theory of power. Weber is an author of the theory of authority, theory of legal authority of a modern state based on legitimacy, bureaucracy and force. The main research question of this work is whether the power of modern state is cause or an effect of the existence of the modern state. The first part of this work contains the analysis of the approaches to the theory of power and theory of state. The main ideological approaches (Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Marx, Weber, Foucault, Nozick, and Dahl) are compared with regard to the Weber?s approach. The second part of this work contains an analysis if the Weber?s theory of power and his concept of a legal authority of the modern state. The first part of this analysis includes the analysis of the authority, the division of the type of the authority and its instruments. The second part is devoted to the analysis of the legality and legitimacy relationship. The third part includes a final synthesis: it resolves the main research question. It concludes that the legal authority of the modern state is an effect of the existence of the modern state.
