Postenvironmentalism in the context of some environmental currents

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o postenvironmentalismu – novém trendu v současném environ-mentálním hnutí, který je reprezentován především Tedem Nordhausem a Michaelem Shellenbergerem. Krátký úvod je věnovaný současné pozici postenvironmentalismu v environmentálním hnutí a nejčastějším reakcím na něj. Následně jsou na základě analýzy textů definovány základní myšlenky tohoto směru, které jsou posléze srovnávány s myšlenkami tří dalších směrů – tržním environmentalismem, přírodním kapitalismem a ekologickou modernizací. Analýza se soustředí na to, jaká řešení ekologické krize autoři navrhují. Na základě tohoto srovnání se práce snaží zjistit, co má s těmito směry postenvironmentalismus společného a v čem se od nich naopak odlišuje. Diskuze se zamýšlí nad potenciálem postenvironmentalismu úspěšně naplnit jeho vytyčených environmentální cíle.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with postenvironmentalism – new trend in the current environ-mental movement represented in the first place by Ted Nordhaus and Michael Shellenberger. Short introduction is devoted to current position of postenvironmentalism in environmental movement and to some most frequent reactions. Then, based on the analysis of text, there are defined the main ideas of postenvironmentalism which are then compared with ideas of another three environmental currents – free market environmentalism, natural capitalism and ecological modernization. The analysis focuses on what solutions of the ecological crisis the author's propose. Based on this comparison the thesis tries to find out what does postenvironmentalism have in common with these currents and what the differences are. Discussion elaborates on the potencial of postenvironemntalism to successfully meet its goals.
