Restoration and use of Benedictine monasteries in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje obnově a využití benediktinských klášterů v České republice v současnosti. Věnuje se pouze klášterům, které jsou k 21. 8. 2023 v majetku řádu. Práce nastiňuje historii těchto klášterů, jejich architektonický vývoj, kulturní hodnoty a současné využití. Dále se zabývá obnovou a udržitelným využití klášterních budov a jejich areálů. Zkoumá tyto aspekty na základě vlastního pozorování autora a osobně uskutečněných rozhovorů s hlavními aktéry provozu těchto objektů, tedy nad rámec dohledatelných informací v literatuře a dalších dostupných zdrojů. Cílem práce je krom popisu současného stavu také zjištění možností budoucího využití těchto objektů ve 21. století s respektem k jejich duchovní povaze a historické hodnotě.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the restoration and use of Benedictine monasteries in the Czech Republic. It focuses only on monasteries that are in the possession of the Order as of 21 August 2023. The thesis outlines the history of these monasteries, their architectural development, cultural values and current use. It also deals with the restoration and sustainable use of the monastery buildings and their grounds. It examines these aspects on the basis of the author's own observation and personal interviews with the main actors in the operation of these buildings, i.e. beyond the information available in the literature and other available sources. In addition to describing the current situation, the aim of the work is also to identify the possibilities of future use of these objects in the 21st century, respecting their spiritual nature and historical value.
