Noble auteur without wings. Queer aspects in the films of František Čáp in the protectorate era and at the beginning of nationalised cinema.

Abstract:

The examination of the individual works of director František Čáp, with an emphasis on the author's poetics and queer aspects, forms the core of this bachelor thesis. The analysis of Čáp's completed and unfinished projects is defined by the period of the Protectorate and the Third Republic, during which Čáp was active on the territory of the Czech Republic until his emigration. The analysis of the works yields a corpus of recurring creative aspects in terms of thematic and stylistic articulation, which is underscored by a queer reading. For a comprehensive understanding of Čáp's authorial choices, the thesis also explains the social or historical conditions, with an emphasis on the queer subculture taking shape in the environment of the Lucernafilm film company.

Abstract:

Skúmanie jednotlivých diel režiséra Františka Čápa, s dôrazom na autorskú poetiku a queer aspekty, tvorí jadro tejto bakalárskej práce. Rozbor Čápových dokončených i nedokončených projektov, je vymedzený obdobím protektorátu a Tretej republiky, počas ktorých Čáp pôsobil na území Česka až do jeho emigrácie. Analýza diel prináša korpus opakujúcich sa tvorivých aspektov, ktoré podtrháva queer čítanie. Pre komplexné pochopenie Čápových autorských volieb, práca vysvetľuje i spoločenské či historické podmienky s dôrazom na queer subkultúru formujúcu sa v prostredí filmovej spoločnosti Lucernafilm.
