Long-term unemployment and its impact on the mental Health

Abstract:

Cílem mé diplomové práce bylo odpovědět na hlavní výzkumnou otázku: „Jaké faktory ovlivňují psychické zdraví dlouhodobě nezaměstnaných?“ Předmětem mého zkoumání byly dopady dlouhodobé nezaměstnanosti na fyzické zdraví a psychickou stabilitu nezaměstnaných osob. V teoretické části jsem se zaměřila na analýzu adaptivních i maladaptivních způsobů zvládání této tíživé životní situace a nastínila možné metody i efektivní strategie pro překonání tohoto krizového období. Z této teoretické koncepce vyplynuly čtyři dílčí výzkumné otázky, které jsem operacionalizovala a zvolila nástroje pro jejich měření. Výzkum byl proveden prostřednictvím polostandardizovaných rozhovorů s dlouhodobě nezaměstnanými osobami – registrovanými v evidenci uchazečů o zaměstnání déle než 1 rok, s úřednicemi úřadu práce i ze studia interních dokumentů této instituce. Výsledkem mé práce jsou zjištění, která mají napomoci ke zlepšení psychického zdraví dlouhodobě nezaměstnaných osob. Součástí práce jsou také doporučení změn určená především dlouhodobě nezaměstnaným a také vedení úřadu práce.

Abstract:

The aim of my dissertation was to answer the main research question: “What kinds of factors affect the mental health of the long-term unemployed?” The impacts of the long-term unemployment on the mental health and mental stability of the unemployed are the objects of my research. In theoretical part I aimed at the analysis of adaptive and maladaptiv ways of handling of this depressing situation in life and I have outlined the possible methods as well as effective strategies to overcome this crisis period. Four partial reasearch questions arised from this theoretical conception, which I operationalized and chose the tools for their measurement. The research was made via half-standardized interviews with long-term unepmployed – registered at the Employment Office for more than 1 year, with the officials from this Office and from studies of the internal documents of this Institution. The results of my dissertation are the findings that can help to improve mental health of the long-term unemployed. The part of my work is also the reccomendation of changes mostly determined for the long-term unemployed as well as for the management of the Employment Office.
