Computer Assisted Composition – Precedents to Formalised Thought

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje charakteristickému typu instrumentální komponované hudby, která vzniká v asistenci počítače a primárně se vyvíjí v linii Nové hudby. Od konce 60. let se pro její označení používá pojem počítačem asistované kompozice (CAC). Primárním předmětem zájmu práce je systematické uchopení oblasti CAC, které se realizuje zaměřením na uplatňované kompoziční myšlení, na jeho vývoj a sféru jeho vznikání. K realizaci svých cílů používá práce analýzu formalizovaných metod a analýzu skladeb, stejně jako analýzu kompetencí k používání asistující technologie a analýzu souvisejícího diskursu, jenž spoluvytváří kontext sledovaného kompozičního myšlení. Práce se primárně pohybuje v oblasti hudební teorie, estetiky a historie a omezuje se na artificiální CAC, která se vyvíjí v linii Nové hudby.

Abstract:

The work focuses on a characteristic form of composed instrumental music which is created with the assistance of a computer and which has primarily developed within the lineage of new music. The term computer assisted composition (CAC) has been used to describe this type of work since the late 1960s. The primary interest of the work is a systematic treatment of CAC, realised with a focus on applied compositional thinking, on its development and its sphere of creation. In order to achieve its aims, the work makes use of analyses of formalised methods and analyses of specific compositions, as well as analyses of the skill level needed to use assistant technologies and analyses of related discourse, which helps create the context of compositional thought under examination. The work primarily operates in the fields of musical theory, aesthetics, and history, and limits itself to artificial CAC developed within the lineage of new music.
