This thesis addresses the topic of the Middle Passage which is understood as the central part of the transatlantic slave trade in which enslaved Africans were transported to the Americas. The significance of memory and, in particular, the remembering of traumatic experience then becomes crucial for understanding later reflections of this historical period.
