Shrinking cities in Central European countries

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Shrinking cities v zemích střední Evropy se zaměřuje na identifikaci příčin a důsledků městského smršťování a na vyhodnocení projevů tohoto jevu ve středoevropském městském prostředí. V první části jsou rozebrána teoretická východiska fenoménu shrinking cities. Následně je na základě stanovené metodiky uskutečněna analýza vývoje počtu obyvatel středoevropských měst s cílem provedení kategorizace a zhodnocení míry projevu městského smršťování. Nedílnou součást představují případové studie vybraných středoevropských měst, v rámci kterých jsou analyzovány demografické ukazatele, ukazatel intenzity bytové výstavby a míry nezaměstnanosti. Analýza tak přináší detailnější pohled na příčiny a dopady sužující smršťující se města.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis Shrinking cities in Central European countries focuses on the identification of the causes and consequences of urban shrinkage and on the evaluation of the manifestations of this phenomenon in the Central European urban environment. In the first part, the theoretical background of the phenomenon of shrinking cities is discussed. Then, based on the established methodology, an analysis of the population development of Central European cities is carried out in order to categorize and evaluate the degree of manifestation of urban shrinkage. Case studies of selected Central European cities are an integral part of the analysis, in which demographic indicators, intensity of housing construction and unemployment rates are analysed. The analysis thus provides a more detailed view of the causes and impacts plaguing shrinking cities.
