From Dracula to The Twilight saga - the changing literary figure of the vampire

Abstract:

V první části definujeme pojem postava, následně se dostaneme od literárního žánru pověsti, ze kterého upír a představa o něm vznikla, k žánru hororu a červené knihovny. Přiblížíme si děj knih Dracula, Stmívání, Upíří deníky, o které se budeme v této práci zajímat. V následující části prozkoumáme především to, jak se proměnila postava upíra v literatuře působením let. Postavy v literárních dílech srovnáme, při čemž se budeme soustředit na jejich původ, obydlí, vzhled, schopnosti atd. Pokusíme se zjistit, zda se postava upíra v literatuře proměnila a k jakým změnám došlo.

Abstract:

In the first chapter of the thesis we made a definition of the character term, after that we will get to the literature gendere called legend, where the vampire character appears, to superstitions and traditions which were the basis of a vampire and its image, to the gendre of horror and gendere of slushy romance. The story of the books mentioned in this work like Dracula, Twilight and Vampire Diaries will be outlined. The following part primarily examines changes in the vampire character in literature throughout the years. The method used here is the comparison of the characters focusing on their origin, residence, appearance, abilities, etc. Our aim is to find out whether the vampire character in literature has changed and to what extent.
