Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci se věnuji příběhům otroků v Karibiku, jež byly napsané v osmnáctém a devatenáctém století. Tato práce se soustřeďuje na dvě hlavní díla tohoto žánru: The Interesting Narrative of Olaudah Equiano, Or Gustavus Vassa, An African Slave a The History of Mary Prince, A West Indian Slave. V úvodu práce jsou příběhy otroků uvedeny do historického kontextu, s důrazem na vývin politické situace vzhledem k otroctví na přelomu osmnáctého a devatenáctého století a také jsou definovány charakteristické znaky příběhů o otrocích. V následujících kapitolách sa zabývám dvěma hlavními díly. Každé z nich je nejdříve zařazeno do svého žánru s ohledem na kritéria uvedená v úvodní kapitole a poté jsou zkoumána z hlediska vztahu mezi pánem a otrokem.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with 18th and 19th century Caribbean slave narratives. The main texts explored in this thesis are The Interesting Narrative of Olaudah Equiano, Or Gustavus Vassa, An African Slave and The History of Mary Prince, A West Indian Slave. In the introduction, the slave narratives are put into historical context, focusing on slavery in the late 18th and early 19th century. The main characteristics of slave narratives are described as well. Later, the main texts are described in terms of their genre and then explored focusing on the master-slave relationship.
