Body and Mind Femininity in Females: Factors and Relationships

Abstract:

Vztah mezi tělesnými a psychickými vlastnostmi organismu (tzv. psychofyzická jednota) je dosud jen velmi málo prozkoumán. Platí to plně i pro pohlavně specifické projevy v tělesných a psychických vlastnostech člověka. Cílem této bakalářské práce byla empirická studie projevu typických sexuálně dimorfních znaků žen (feminity) v tělesné i psychické rovině a širší průzkum jejich souvislostí. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 70 žen s věkovým průměrem 22,16 roku, převážně studentek českých univerzit. Psychologická úroveň feminity byla měřena pomocí pětifaktorového osobnostního dotazníku (NEO-FFI), dotazníku preference povolání (RIASEC), dotazníku sociosexuality (SOI-R) a dotazníku partnerských vztahů a sexuality. Kognitivní schopnosti byly testovány pomocí testu verbální fluence a subtestu prostorové představivosti z Testu studijních předpokladů Masarykovy Univerzity (TSP). Tělesná úroveň feminity byla měřena za pomoci metod antropometrie a dermatoglyfiky. Byla nalezena pozitivní souvislost mezi realistickou profesní osobností (z testu RIASEC) a některými fyzickými vlastnostmi (např. s tělesnými indexy, somatotypy a věkem menarche). Profesní vlastnosti, které nejsou jednoznačně sexuálně vyhraněné, souvisely s řadou tělesných znaků dominujících jak u mužů, tak u žen. Dále byla nalezena záporná korelace mezi délkou nosu a společenskou profesní osobností (z RIASEC), a také korelace mezi antropometrickými znaky (např. negativní s délkou philtrum a šířkodélkovým indexem ruky, pozitivní s poměrem obvodu pasu a boků) a neuroticismem (z NEO), jehož hodnoty jsou typicky vyšší u žen. Výsledky této studie potvrzují vztah mezi ženskou tělesnou a psychickou feminitou.

Abstract:

Up to now, far too little attention has been paid to the relationship between physical and psychological properties of an organism (so called psychophysical unity). This also applies to sexually specific manifestations of physical and psychological properties of humans. The aim of this bachelor thesis was to empirically investigate the typical sexually dimorphic manifestation of women (femininity) on the physical and psychological levels and to explore their relationships. The sample consisted of 70 women with mean age of 22.16 years of whom most were students of Czech universities. Psychological level of femininity was measured using the five-factor personal inventory (NEO-FFI), the careers and vocational choice questionnaire (RIASEC), Sociosexual Orientation Inventory (SOI-R) and a questionnaire on partnerships and sexuality. To measure the cognitive abilities the Verbal Fluency test and subtest of spatial imagination from the Test of study presuppositions (TSP, Masaryk University) was used. Physical level of femininity was measured using anthropometry and dermatoglyphic techniques. The current study found a positive correlation between the masculine personality type Realistic (RIASEC) and some of the masculine physical attributes (e.g. physical indexes, somatotypes and menarche). Personality properties which are not unambiguously sexually dimorphic were related to physical attributes on both sides of the sexual dimorphism scale. A negative correlation was found between the length of the nose and Social personality type (RIASEC). Other correlations were found between anthropometrics features (e.g. negative with the length of philtrum, length-width index of left hand and positive with waist-to-hip ratio) and Neuroticism (NEO) whose values are typically higher for women. The results of this study confirmed the relationship between physical and psychological femininity in woman.
