Experience of parents of children with autism spectrum disorders with the ESDM intervention model

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na zkušenosti rodičů dětí s poruchami autistického spektra s terapeuticko-intervenčním modelem ESDM (Early Start Denver Model). Obsah teoretické části se vztahuje k problematice poruch autistického spektra a včasných intervencí, s důrazem na popsání dostupných intervenčních metod a jejich významu. Další kapitoly přibližují specifika terapeutického modelu ESDM v kontextu rozvoje malých dětí s projevy PAS. Další kapitoly přibližují metodiku a základy terapeutického modelu ESDM, který je poměrně nově využívanou formou rané intervence v ČR. Poslední kapitola teoreticky zpracovává prožívání rodičů dětí s PAS v souvislosti s intervenční metodou ESDM. Výzkumným cílem je zmapovat a popsat prožitky rodičů pohledem kvalitativního přístupu, s využitím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo šest matek dětí s PAS. Zpracování dat proběhlo na základě tématické analýzy. Bylo identifikováno pět hlavních kategorii společných pro zkušenosti všech respondentek: důvody výběru ESDM, průběh terapie, využívání technik ESDM, změny ve vývoji dětí a změny v psychickém prožívání rodičů.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the experience of parents of children with autism spectrum disorders with the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM). The content of the theoretical part relates to autism spectrum disorders and early intervention, with an emphasis on describing the available intervention methods and their importance. Other chapters present the specifics of the ESDM therapeutic model in the context of the development of young children with manifestations of PAS. Further chapters present the methodology and foundations of the ESDM therapeutic model, which is a relatively new form of early intervention in the Czech Republic. The last chapter theoretically elaborates the experiences of parents of children with PAS in the context of the ESDM intervention method. The research aim is to map and describe parents' experiences through a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews. The research population consisted of six mothers of children with PAS. Data processing was based on thematic analysis. Five main categories common to the experiences of all respondents were identified: reasons for choosing ESDM, course of therapy, use of ESDM techniques, changes in child development and changes in parents' psychological experiences.
