Native American Rituals: Past and Present

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis was to find whether and how the Native American rituals have changed over time. For this purpose, the three rituals were chosen and described in detail. These rituals have been most widespread and most significant rituals among the Native American tribes of North America. The thesis emphasized the impact of arrival of Europeans who hand in hand with Christianity have irreversibly influenced the culture of American indigenous people. The final part of the thesis showed that although Native Americans and their rituals and ceremonies have undergone several major or minor changes, their principle and core has survived until today.

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo zjistit, jestli a jak se změnily rituály Amerických Indiánů v průběhu času. K tomuto účelu byly vybrány a podrobně popsány tři rituály, které byly nejrozšířenějšími a nejvýznamnějšími rituály mezi Indiánskými kmeny Severní Ameriky. Práce kladla důraz na dopad příchodu Evropanů, kteří ruku v ruce s křesťanstvím nevratně ovlivnili kulturu původních obyvatel amerického kontinentu. Závěrečná část práce ukázala, že ačkoliv Američtí Indiáni a jejich rituály prošly několika většími či menšími změnami, jejich jádro a podstata přežila až do současnosti.
